This steamed chicken (chinese style) is a classic recipe that is very easy to make. Simple, tasty and delicious meal that you can cook for lunch or dinner. The secret ingredient is always love and you’re family will always savour any dish you cook. Happy cooking!
Steamed Chicken (Chinese Style)
1 kilogram whole chicken,
1 tablespoon ginger shreds
1 tablespoon green onion shreds, white part (alternatively spring onions)
1 tablespoon light soy sauce
1 teaspoon Chinese cooking wine
½ teaspoon salt
4 tablespoon oyster sauce
4 tablespoon light soy sauce
8 tablespoons water
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chopped green onions
2 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon cornstarch (dissolved in little water)
salt to taste
5 cloves garlic, minced and toasted
Note: light soy sauce is not the same with soy sauce. Light soy sauce is available in SM or major groceries.
Prepare and clean the chicken thoroughly.
Once the chicken is clean, pour the marinade into the chicken and mix it well until evenly distributed on all sides. Sprinkle the ginger strips and chopped green onions and marinade for a minimum of 30 minutes or longer.
Once the chicken is marinated, prepare the steamer and let the water starts boiling before adding the steamer rack with chicken. Steam for about 30 minutes over high heat until chicken becomes soft. Do not open the steamer until it reaches the required steaming time. And place a clean cloth on top to prevent water from dripping on the chicken.
Once done, chop chicken into desired serving size and place in a serving platter.
For the sauce:
In a small pot over low heat, add sesame oil and sautè chopped garlic and green onion until fragrant. Add oyster sauce, light soy sauce, dissolved cornstarch and water. Season with salt to taste. Mix well and bring all the content to a boiling. Transfer to dipping bowl and cool down a little bit.
Serve steamed chicken with steamed bok choy and sauce on top. Garnish with toasted garlic. Enjoy!
