“Let me champion the plight of the humble beans. People seem to have relegated them to an occasional presence on the dinner table.

Beans are packed with nutritional value and are versatile to use in so many food preparations. They are a great source of protein and fiber as well as vitamins and minerals. Make an effort to include them often in your meal planning and give the beans some love.”


1/2 pound dry Navy beans
1 cup cubed smoked ham
1 small onion, chopped
1 small carrot, diced
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 bay leaf
8 cups of water
Salt & pepper to taste


1. Sort and rinse beans.

2. Do not soak.

3. In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients.

4. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until beans are tender. Add more water if necessary.

5. Correct seasonings if needed.

6. Enjoy!
