Pinaputok na Tilapia


1 kilo large sized tilapia
4 medium tomatoes,chopped
4 medium onions, chopped
a dash of ground pepper
a dash of salt

For the sauce:
5 tbsp soy sauce
5 tbsp lime juice
2 tbsp sugar
2 red chilli pepper, sliced

You will need:

wilted banana leaves (wrapper or foil)


Remove fish scale, wash and pat dry the tilapia. Slice and slit fish on the belly packet.

Rub fish on both sides with salt and pepper including the inside belly.

In a bowl, mix onion and tomato rings. Season with salt and pepper. Spread a teaspoon of butter in banana leaves. Lay some seasoned onions and tomatoes. Put tilapia on top of it, add tomatoes and onion inside the belly packet including the head of the fish.

Cover and make sure to wrap it tightly. Fry each side for 5 minutes

Turn both sides when frying, turn off the heat when done.

Serve hot with dipping sauce on the side.
