Mama’s Crab Curry

Something super spicy seafood is coming your way with Mama’s crab curry. An Indian style curry recipe you must try. Prepare to fight with tons of steamed rice. Yummmm!

MAMAS CRAB CURRY RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup water
6 big size crabs
3-6 red chillies
1 tablespoon tamarind pulp (or sampaloc paste)
1/2 fresh coconut scraped (ginayat na niyog hindi piniga)
1 teaspoon garam masala powder (curry powder alternatively)
8 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon oil
1 big size onion sliced
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin powder
Corriander leaves/cilantro, chopped (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Wash and clean crabs thoroughly with running water. Only the body and claws are used. You can slice the body and slightly crack the claw for hassle free eating.

Boil crabs into a large pot of water. Once cooked, drain water and set aside.

Grind the scraped coconut with red chilies cumin seeds, turmeric powder and garlic to a fine paste. (use a blender)

In a pot, heat up oil on medium heat up and stir fry onions until soft in texture. Stir-fry for one minute. Add in ground spices and stir-fry for another minute.

Add in the tamarind pulp, salt to taste and crabs. Let it simmer (boil slowly at low temperature) over low heat, place pot cover for 15 minutes. Adjust more water if necessary (add water little by little only) and stir fry till done. Serve hot and enjoy!
