French Bread Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

SET A:

  • 2-1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. white vinegar

SET B:

  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1/3 cup oil (Canola)
  • 6-7 cups flour

Materials needed:

  • Small pot of boiling water

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a mixing bowl, mix SET A ingredients together and let it stand until mixture becomes bubbly for about about 3-5 minutes.
  2. Once the mixture is bubbly, add Set B ingredients. Using an electric mixer with a dough hook, knead it for around 2-5 minutes.
  3. Let the Dough Rise.
  4. Next, set the oven to its lowest setting at 170°F (76°C) then TURN IT OFF. Place the dough in the oven with a small pot of boiling water. Placing the water inside the oven will keep the dough moist and help it rise faster.
  5. Keep checking on the dough to rise up. Once it gets to the top of the bowl. Take out the dough and punch it down to release the air in the center. Repeat punch for about 2-5 times.
  6. Transfer the dough on a greased flat surface or working table. Roll the dough into a nice ball, and divide it in half to yield to large loaves.
  7. Grease the cookie sheet with oil or cooking spray and dust it with a thin layer of cornmeal on the bottom of the sheet. Knead the dough into 2 rectangle/long French bread shapes. Slit each loaves on top with diagonal slash for 3-5 times. Then, brush the dough with an egg glaze (beaten egg).
  8. Ready to bake: Heat the oven to 170°F (190°C) and this time do not turn off the oven. Place the pan in the oven and wait until the loaves are the size you want to cook them at.
  9. Once they look fluffy and just the size you want, adjust the temp to 375°F (without opening the door) and let the loaves bake for about 15 minutes, or until done.
  10. The top of the loaves should be golden brown. Once done, turn off heat and transfer loaves into a cooling rack. Share and enjoy!
