This Bacon Jam Recipe is Filipino Style! Yummy and delicious spread you can add to any burger, sandwich or even pasta. Sarap nya promise! Tasty, sweet and savory good. You can even start a business of Bacon Jam Gourmet and sell it on bottled jars. Enjoy and happy cooking!
Touch it up with your favorite flavour, I have add all purpose seasoning but that is just optional, you may add any one of the following: jalapeno, tobasco, nutmeg, cinnamon or vanilla flavoring. For the bacon, you can choose the smoked bacon if you’re feeling lavish or the expensive type, it should turn out more delicious than the cheaper type of bacon.
FILIPINO STYLE BACON JAM
INGREDIENTS:
400 grams bacon, sliced into small pieces (I used Holiday Bacon for 2 packs)
4 garlic cloves, chopped
2 white onion, sliced
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup banana ketchup
1 cup brewed coffee
1⁄4 cup apple cider vinegar (or red wine vinegar, or balsamic) I used red wine vinegar because I have extra.
1⁄4 cup honey or maple syrup
1 tsp all purpose seasoning (optional, or substitute with vanilla for that delicious smell.)
salt and pepper
little water
PROCEDURE:
In a large non stick pan, fry the bacon until lightly browned and beginning to crisp. Drain from oil and set aside.
In the same pan, saute onion and garlic in the rendered bacon fat over medium heat until translucent and fragrant.
Add back the bacon, then add in brown sugar, pour in coffee and red wine vinegar. Do not stir and let simmer for a few minutes. Continue mixing the mixture and add all other ingredients. Season with salt and pepper and add the ketchup on the final stage of cooking. Keep stirring until the sauce becomes thick.
Once ready, cool for about 15-20 minutes and then transfer in a food processor or blender. Blend for 2-3 seconds so that you leave some extra chunk to the “jam” or of course you could keep blending and make it a smoother and more paste like.
Serve on your favorite burger, grilled cheese, as an appetizer on crusty bread.
The possibilities are endless. Enjoy!
