Homemade Butter Cheese

Butter Cheese 

Also known as butter cheese, curd cheese from the north. It is a typical cheese from the northeastern. The butter cheese is made without adding rennet, since the dough is obtained by acid denaturation, cooked in the fired pan together with the skim whey. This recipe is adapted from Brazilians and I am sure Filipinos will definitely love this recipe. Simple and yummy!

HOMEMADE BUTTER CHEESE

INGREDIENTS:

200g of cornstarch (1.67 cups)
250g butter or margarine
1 liter of milk (fresh milk like Magnolia or Selecta)
½ cup of grated cheese 50g,  (parmesan, cheddar, Eden, etc)
Salt to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Mix all ingredients in a blender or use an electric hand mixer to mix it well.

2. Pour the contents of the blender into a pan and bring to medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens about 20 minutes.

3. Place the cheese in a microwaveable plastic container with cover. Refrigerate until cool.

4. Once chilled, unmold slice and serve. Enjoy!

Notes: For longer shelf life, keep it refrigerated in airtight containers or ziplock bags.
