What is Kabya in english? Kabya is kabibe/halaan are clams in english or otherwise known as Venerupis Philippinarum . Try this recipe of Ginger Clam Soup. Its delicious and healthy, and side it with fried fish on the side. Yummy!

Tinolang Kabya (Clam Soup)

INGREDIENTS:
1 kilo kabya, (clams or Venerupis philippinarum)
1 piece sayote (chayote), peeled & sliced thinly
1 inch size ginger, sliced into strips
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 red onion, sliced
2 tomatoes, sliced
2 pieces long green chili (siling haba or pang- sigang)
cooking oil
2 cups water
1 tablespoon patis
salt and pepper, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. In running water, wash clams and remove dirt. Transfer in a bowl of water, cover and let sit in for several hours to allow the clams to expel dirt. Discard water, wash and drain again.

2. In a large pan, heat oil and sauté garlic, ginger and onions until fragrant.

3. Add 2 cups of water, kabya, green chili peppers, tomatoes, and sayote. Bring it to a boil and simmer until the shells start to open and sayote becomes tender for about 5-10 minutes.

4. Season with patis, salt and pepper to taste. Turn off heat. Serve hot with fried fish on the side. Enjoy!
