Another homemade Chinese food, you shouldn’t miss to try.. So delicious and spicy.. Shrimp on fire.. Sweet, orange flavored sauce and spicy shrimp.
Shrimp Orange (Chinese Style Recipe)
1 kilogram Shrimp
4 cups flour
1 tablespoon Salt
1 teaspoon of Pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon milk
Chinese hot sauce (or any hot sauce/sriracha)
1 tablespoon oil
¼ teaspoon chili flakes
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
½ teaspoon ginger, minced
¼ cup (50 g) sugar
¼ cup (55 g) brown sugar
¼ cup (60 mL) orange juice
¼ cup (120 mL) white distilled vinegar
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds/oil
Chopped green onions
Grated cheese (optional)
Fresh orange slices, on the side
PREPARATION: Clean, remove shells and devein shrimp. Pat dry. Set aside.
Mix seasoning to flour (salt, pepper and paprika), set aside. Add milk and hot sauce to beaten eggs. Beat them altogether.
BREADING: Prepare 3 bowls (flour, egg, flour) Double coat shrimp by adding them to the flour, then egg mixture and back into the flour. Let stand on the side, and let the oil get hot enough.
Cook the shrimp by batches until golden brown. Set aside and drain oil using paper towels.
MAKE THE SAUCE: Heat a heavy bottomed pot over medium-high heat with oil. When the oil begins to simmer, add red pepper flakes, ginger, and garlic, and cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Add the sugar and brown sugar, and stir to combine.
Add in the orange juice and allow the sugar to begin to dissolve in the liquid and stir it occasionally.
Add in the vinegar and soy sauce, and stir to combine. Add the cornstarch and water together and whisk to combine. Add to the pan and stir. Continue to cook the sauce until maple syrup consistency is achieved.
Add in the fried shrimp and stir until completely coated in the sauce. Top with sesame seed/oil, grated cheese, green onions.
