Sriracha and Honey Tofu

Sriracha and Honey Tofu

If you love spicy, this one is a combination of spicy and sweet..I love Sriracha! If you haven’t tried this hot sauce..you gotta try it. I always add a bit of Sriracha in any saucy recipe and it helps amp up the flavor. I also use this sauce for Buffalo Style Chicken Wings. But don’t worry, Sriracha isn’t that too spicy (its not too spicy that it burns your tongue).

Sriracha and Honey Tofu

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 block medium firm tofu
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp sriracha hot chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1½ tbsp honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tbsp chinese cooking wine (or rice vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 small red bell pepper
  • 1 long green chili pepper, sliced (optional)
  • 1 scallion, finely chopped (optional garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. To remove extra water, drain the tofu and wrap it in a tea towel or paper towel. Till the tofu is dry, repeat 3–4 times. Slice the tofu in cubes.
  2. In a small bowl, stir garlic, sriracha, soy sauce, honey and cooking wine. Set aside.
  3. Use a medium large non-stick pan and turn the heat to high. Add oil and when the oil is hot, fry the tofu cubes (adjust heat to low).
  4. Fry on each side for 2-3 minutes without touching or tossing too much, until golden brown.
  5. Push the tofu on one side and saute the green chili pepper and bell pepper to cook. Add the sauce and mix them all together to coat tofu.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss and turn and let cook for another minute over low heat.
  7. Turn the heat off and drizzle with sesame oil.
  8. Toss once more to evenly coat tofu cubes and serve topped with scallions. Enjoy!
