This recipe is a dish from Laos Cuisine and was also adapted by its Asian neighboring countries. In Thai they love Som Tam Tang which is made of green Papaya. Tum Tang is somehow similar, in taste sweet, sour, salty and pungent in taste..it’s just that Cucumbers are used.
Spicy Cucumber Salad Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
1 large cucumber (2 medium)
3-6 red chilies, (2 chillies are mild in taste)
1 tablespoon shrimp paste
½ tablespoon tamarind paste (optional)
6 tomatoes, chopped
1 and ½ tablespoons sugar (Thai use palm sugar)
1 tablespoon Bagoong Isda (In Thailand they use “Padaek” or Padek Thai Fish Sauce)
Lime/Calamansi, juiced
Patis, to taste
You will Need: Large mortar and pestle
INSTRUCTIONS:
Slightly chop cucumber vertically and scrape with a knife, to get julienned pieces. Whichever way you want to slice it, you just need little pieces of sticks.
Combine all the ingredients and pound it in the mortar until all the juices of the cucumbers and other ingredients and sauce are combined. Just mash it altogether.
